Minoayawin is a health program focused on preventing and managing Type-2 Diabetes in the Island Lake Anisininew Nation.

Background/Context:
Minoayawin is a health program focused on preventing and managing Type-2 Diabetes in the Island Lake Anisininew Nation.

The Challenge:
This Nation has the highest Type-2 Diabetes rate in Manitoba, affecting 1 in 4 people over the age of 7.

The Solution:
Using both Indigenous knowledge and Western medicine, the program will provide group and one-on-one health support. It’s a partnership between Raven Outcomes, Four Arrows Health Authority, and the Anisininew Okimawin.

Expected Results:

  • 150 participants with stronger diabetes self-care skills

  • Greater community control over health programs

  • 20 new quality jobs for Indigenous workers

  • Reduced health care costs
